EMERGING ARTISTS’ CRITIQUE GROUP CULMINATES IN SHOWCASE OF NEW WORK
Contracommon is proud to present Feedback Loop, an exhibition of new works from artists participating in our critique group program. The exhibition will be on view in the gallery from June 26th through July 24th, 2025. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, June 28th from 4pm – 7pm; it is free and open to the public.
Contracommon has been hosting critique groups since 2020 as a way for artists to connect with each other and receive creative feedback during the initial Covid-19 lockdown. The group was hosted on Zoom, allowing artists from any location to participate. Since then, our critique group or “Friendly Feedback” has been hosted both virtually and in-person at Contracommon’s headquarters in Bee Cave. Feedback Loop is the latest evolution of critique group: a collection of eight artists meeting monthly from February – June 2025 creating new works from start to finish.
Current host and Contracommon member Forrest Aderholt says of the exhibition: “We’ve been hosting feedback groups for so long, I wanted to create an opportunity for the participating artists to showcase their work and processes.”
Contracommon empowers underrepresented artists in Central Texas through community, collaboration, and creative exploration. Contracommon is an artist-run nonprofit arts space that focuses on supporting emerging artists’ professional development in a collaborative setting. Through a partnership with the Hill Country Galleria, Contracommon operates an experimental gallery space, provides affordable workspace to emerging artists and access to facilities to support artists’ practices. Resident studio members volunteer their time and expertise to work alongside staff in creating exhibits, workshops and events that connect individual artists to their community and promote artists’ small businesses.
Feedback Loop will be on view in the Contracommon gallery from June 26th through July 24th, 2025. The gallery is open Friday through Sunday from 12pm – 6pm, with private viewing appointments available Monday - Thursday upon request at calendly.com/contracommon. The exhibition will open with a reception on Saturday, June 28th from 4-7pm; it is free and open to the public.
