Watercolor Crash Course with Roxolana Krywonos

In this 2-hour, beginner-friendly class we will be learning about the supplies and techniques used for painting in watercolors! Contrary to a typical “paint and sip” style class, this lesson will be focused on individual experimentation rather than a prescriptive “how to make this picture”. During the first half of class time the instructor, guest artist Roxolana Krywonos, will introduce the class to the different materials and why some will suit your artistic needs better then others. We will also cover some brush techniques and common troubleshoot spots.

In the second hour, attendees are encouraged to play with the different papers and get a feel for how they change the painting experience. A variety of paper types will be available for your use in a postcard size so that you can experience different thicknesses and textures. After the initial introduction, free-spirit students are welcome to freestyle and paint what they want while asking questions when they get stuck. Students who need more structure will be provided step by step exercises to practice.

Beginning Stained Glass: Lead Came Workshop with Deke Cameron

Each student will leave the workshop with a completed work of stained glass.  No experience is necessary and all tools and materials will be provided. This workshop is intended for artists aged 14 and up; participants under 18 must attend with a parent or guardian.

In this single session class, students will learn the basics of lead came, or "lead light" stained glass, while learning basic leading, soldering, and finishing techniques.  We will be assembling pre-cut pieces of glass (students will have a variety of colors/styles to choose from) to form a suncatcher with a themed design (approx 4-6 inches).  Glass cutting and shaping will be discussed, and students will have the opportunity to score/break/grind glass.

Deke Cameron, @the_glassclown on Instagram, is a self-taught South Korean-born stained glass artist from Central Texas.  Deke offers custom stained glass creations, pattern drawing services, video instruction on how to create your own patterns, as well as individual and group instruction in copper foil and leaded stained glass.  You can see more of Deke’s work on his Instagram page and at his website http://www.theglassclown.com. Also, he fuses glass from time to time.
