Linoleum Printmaking Workshop with Kennedy Swift and Connor McAdams Davis

$75 class registration + $65 materials fee: consumable materials will be provided and community tools will be available for use, no need to bring anything!

Students will learn proper technique for linoleum block carving and will have the opportunity to both hand print and use a printing press to create at least one edition of prints. The workshop will guide students through a one color hand printed linoleum print, and then students will have the option to create a two-color print or two more single color prints. The workshop will supply ink, gloves, and cleanup materials but students should be advised to bring an apron or else wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty.

Required Materials List (BYO or pay materials fee)

  • 1 - 2x3 in. mounted lino block, mounted*

  • 2 - 5x7in mounted lino blocks, mounted*

  • 2 - sheets of Masa or Kitakata paper**

  • 3 - sheets of Arches 88 paper**

  • A set of carving tools like this one

  • A 4” or 6” brayer, like this

  • A glass or plastic printing baren, or similar item for hand printing

    *Please make sure you purchase mounted linoleum blocks (with a wood backing).

    **students who want to make larger editions should bring more paper

This workshop is intended for artists aged 18 and up.

Instructor Bios:

Kennedy Swift is a multidisciplinary artist based in Austin, Texas. They finished their BFA in Studio Arts with a concentration in Printmaking at Texas State University in 2020 and were awarded a fellowship for Penland School of Craft’s Winter Residency in 2023. Kennedy previously worked as Texas State University’s print shop assistant in addition to working as a teaching assistant for beginner and advanced students. 

Connor McAdams Davis is a Texas State University graduate. They earned a BFA in Studio Art in 2020, during which they completed multiple printmaking courses. Connor has worked in commercial screen printing for three years. Now, they continue to explore various forms of printmaking and other mediums while participating in workshops, markets, and Austin-based art events.
