ABout the Artist
Salvador Rodríguez is a Texas-based landscape painter whose work explores the balance between structure and spontaneity in the natural world. He discovered his passion for painting at a young age, long before any formal training, and has always approached art instinctively—as a natural way to understand life, space, and emotion.
Alongside art, Rodríguez pursued a career in computer systems engineering, earning a B.S. inComputer Systems Engineering from ITESM in 1992. Through mathematics and computing, herecognized deep parallels between digital systems and nature—symmetry, rhythm, structure,and unseen forces. Over time, however, years of painting landscapes taught him that nature is less about perfection and more about balance: an interplay of light, atmosphere, and energy. His goal is to translate those forces onto canvas, creating paintings that invite calm, harmony, and connection with the land.
Rodríguez has focused on painting the Big Bend region for over eight years, along with deserts and mountain landscapes of Texas and northern Mexico. His work honors the land, celebrates its quiet beauty, and encourages a deeper relationship with nature. In 2025, he received the prestigious Onderdonk Purchase Prize from the San Antonio Art League + Museum for his painting Bluebonnets at Big Bend, now part of the museum’s permanent collection.
His work has been shown in national and international exhibitions, including The Art League’s 95th Annual Juried Exhibition (2025), The People’s Gallery at Austin City Hall (2024–2026), The Other Art Fair Dallas (2022), and multiple Austin Studio Tours. He has presented solo exhibitions at Rockport Art Center, Dougherty Arts Center, and other venues, including the series “Senderos del Desierto”.
Rodríguez’s paintings seek not just to depict a place, but to preserve its spirit—inviting viewers to experience the same stillness and restorative energy he feels in the landscape.
