Perennials

Contracommon is proud to present Perennials, a group exhibition showcasing creative resilience. The exhibition will be on view in the gallery from May 9th through June 7th, 2025. An immersive art experience and fundraiser will act as an opening reception on Friday, May 9th from 7pm – 11pm; tickets are available for a sliding scale donation of $30 or more. 

As plants, perennials grow and bloom for a season, go dormant, and then return once more. They are resilient and adaptable, often producing delightful or curious things. As humans, and especially as artists, we can relate to the perennial. We experience different seasons in life and go through phases of productivity and reflection. Perennials often have deep, extensive root systems that protect and sustain them during dormant periods, allowing for a more fruitful reemergence. Our connections, our community and personal creative journeys serve as our roots–grounding and supporting us.

The Perennials exhibition will open with an immersive art experience and fundraising party called Secret Garden, featuring interactive installations. Explore eleven private artist studios, shop a curated $100 art sale, enjoy live performances, and support Contracommon’s mission to provide affordable studio space for emerging artists. Come experience the fruits of this season’s labor from our resident creatives, and peruse a “garden” of affordable small artworks from artists who have exhibited with us before! Support Contracommon in its mission to uplift local artists - become our roots. 

Contracommon empowers underrepresented artists in Central Texas through community, collaboration, and creative exploration. Contracommon is an artist-run nonprofit arts space that focuses on supporting emerging artists’ professional development in a collaborative setting. Through a partnership with the Hill Country Galleria, Contracommon operates an experimental gallery space, provides affordable workspace to emerging artists and access to facilities to support artists’ practices. Resident studio members volunteer their time and expertise to work alongside staff in creating exhibits, workshops and events that connect individual artists to their community and promote artists’ small businesses.

Perennials will be on view in the Contracommon gallery from May 9th through June 7th, 2025. The gallery is open Friday through Sunday from 12pm – 6pm, with private viewing appointments available Monday - Thursday upon request at calendly.com/contracommon. The exhibition will open with a fundraiser on Friday, May 9th from 7-11pm; tickets are available for a sliding scale donation through our portal: mightycause.com/organization/Contracommon.
